The Minimally Invasive Bariatric and General Surgery Program at Magee-Womens Hospital is one of the largest and best-known programs for weight loss surgery in the country. Our program provides much more than surgical procedures, and offers individualized attention and support through the entire weight loss journey.
Our services include weekly information sessions designed to provide individuals with information regarding various weight loss procedures. Our program consists of a preoperative six-month medically supervised weight loss course, monthly support group sessions, and postoperative lifetime follow-up care. Ourfocus is to provide patients with education and information necessary to make an informed decision about their health, to eliminate the fears associated with undergoing surgery, and to help patients achieve long-term weight loss success.
Our experts include surgeons and physicians who are board-certified and offer vast expertise in bariatric surgery, including robotic surgery. Advanced techniques are employed in abdominal surgery, including minimal access general surgery and abdominal surgery during pregnancy. We have a multidisciplinary approach to patient care that includes nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and dietitians who oversee patient care.
Our division participates in a variety of research activities that concentrate on obesity-related topics, with a common goal of improving obesity treatment and health outcomes, including obesity surgery for adolescents.
Facts:
- More than 800 bariatric surgery procedures are performed annually at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC.
- Our program includes five board-certified and fellowship-trained surgeons who are members of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
